Bright Idea: Luigi's Mansion 2 for Wii

Yesterday, I was looking around for some artworks of Luigi in Luigi's Mansion to make some avatars and I got to thinking about the game. You all remember Luigi's Mansion right? It was a launch game for the Nintendo GameCube way back in 2001 and Luigi's second game where he was the hero and had to rescue Mario. (The first was Mario is Missing! for the SNES.) Luigi had mysteriously won a contest he never entered and won a huge mansion, the only problem was that it was full of ghosts and they had captured his brother Mario! He had to go around sucking up ghosts with his vacuum machine a.k.a. the Poltergust 3000, to purify the mansion and save his brother.

Make it happen Nintendo!

Anyway, now that your minds have been refreshed, you probably remember how it was an okay game. It wasn't anything amazing, but it was a good game. I know that I enjoyed it, but back in the day if they had made a sequel for the GameCube I would probably have just passed it up. Now that the GC's life span is coming to the end it's apparent that Nintendo didn't think it was really worth a sequel either, but now that we have the Wii and it's amazing new controller everything could change.

Let's imagine for a moment. The Wiimote could be used a your Poltergust 3000 and the motion sensing in the Nunchuck attachment could be used as the flashlight. You're walking through a room when BOO! a ghost jumps out at you. You point your nunchuck controller at the ghost and press the trigger the flashlight flashes right in his face and freezes him. Then you point your Wiimote in the direction of the ghost and press and hold A to suck him up. The controller vibrates as you pull him in and makes all sorts of sucking sounds.

Use the Wiimote as your flashlight and Poltergust 3000!

Of course there will be all sorts of new ghosts and tricks they play on you, but to combat their new strengths you'll have to get upgrades of your Poltergust 3000! The money you collect throughout the game can now be put to use and you can purchase upgrades that Professor E. Gadd has worked up as you progress. Maybe certain ghosts can't be sucked up with just your regular 3000 so to advance you'll need to purchase a new one. As they get better and have more suction maybe they will be easier to handle. The original Poltergust 3000 may vibrate and rumble the controller a lot, but as they get better they will be easier to control and they won't vibrate as much. You could also buy better flashlights that shine brighter or stun the ghosts longer. Now the money can actually be used for something other than how big your house is at the end of the game.

I don't really have any ideas for the story, but I'm sure that Nintendo could come up with something. They always do. Maybe Peach's castle has been overrun with ghosts and they've taken her and Mario hostage and now it's up to Luigi to save them. Pretty much anything could work for a story that Nintendo comes up with.

Luigi you're going to go ghost hunting again!

After giving this a good amount of thought I'm actually getting excited about the possibility of a sequel for the Wii. After the flashlight demo game for the Wii there were a few rumors going around that maybe it was the ground work for another Luigi's Mansion. Nintendo knows they've got something special with their controller and it can work as a many number of things from guns, to tennis rackets, to swords, and even Poltergust 3000s. I hope someone at Nintendo realizes this and turns this dream into a reality.

An interesting idea for it would be that it keeps to the 3'rd person view of Luigi and his surroundings just as it was in the original. There would be one way or another to put use to the wiimote with a cursor of some sort. A fun idea for would be to suck the living sh** out of the ghost then when they reach Zero just click on them and bam they are sucked in! Movement features would of course be based on the nunchuck and Z or X would be one of those buttons to turn on and off the flashlight.

I think that the flashlight should also have different capabilities. For example, while one color flashlight still stuns the Boos, another could be used as an x-ray device, while another might be able to repel the Boos away when in danger. A lot could be used for solving puzzes!

Considering just how great the original Luigi's Mansion was, I can't help but agree with this article personally. Your controls seem fair enough, although the bit about buying upgrades might well be complicating it a bit.

Story line doesn't really matter though, Mario games have never had a story in much of a sense anyway. Just any old excuse for Luigi to hunt ghosts would be good there.

Oh, and I partly prefer your idea to the IGN one. The IGN one, with the multiple players and what not seems like it's overcomplicating the general aim far too much to be honest, and the existing health system in the original was more logical and practical.

awsome i dea. i think for bosses you should have to move the controller a certain way to capture each one. sorta like in starwars the force unleashed. and i do believe actually that they are in works of a luigi's mansion 2. its called "lugi's mansion 2: return if the mansion"!!!!.

How do we convince nintendo to produce Luigi's mansion 2?? I think it would be awesome! I would be first in line to buy a copy.

I think that the second game should have a whole street of houses that even the boos are scared of.

well as long as there is no super mario sunshit im ok , and thee could be a multiplayer challange who can catch the most boos, boo tag.
